Can a constitutional monarchy end our political and leadership crisis?

By Chairman Manyang Parek von Chief Parek

In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, the more I think from time to time as a political man intellectually the more I eventually get myself in confusion mentally which seem like a contradiction between solitude meaning being alone. Leadership is a concept that necessitates the presence of others. The people whom one is leading and is relying on. Therefore, what can solitude have to do with leadership? When we think about leadership in South Sudan history we are likely to think of Dr. John Garang de Mabior as the head of South Sudanese struggle for freedom and disciplined army or William Deng Nhial, as the head of the national unity---people with masses behind them, looking to them for direction. The list further include Father Surturino and father Dominic Morwel Malow who were Christian leaders who did struggle and fought for independence of South Sudan against successive Islamic Arab Regimes of the Sudan. They promoted Christian values, norms and moral ethics in our society and system of governance. So, when we think of solitude, we are opt to think of the writer Manyang Von Chief Parek, a man alone in Equatorial thick forest, keeping a journal and commuting with the nature in silence and watching by telescope on the top of high mountain Imatong on how our beloved new born nation is being badly torn apart by the governing elites without any accountability for high corruption and killings of citizens. Solitude is the ability to be alone with one thought. William Dersiewiez said that if one want others to follow, learn to be alone with your thoughts. And yet I submit to you that solitude is one of the most important necessities of true leadership. Indeed, leadership means leaders among peers and future leaders of society. But does being a leader mean being accomplished, being successful. So leadership and aptitude, and even excellence have to be different things, otherwise the concept of leadership has no meaning especially when without bureaucracy which is hierarchy. Thus, Leadership is referred to as the qualities of character and mind that will make a political man command any department of government institutions or International Corporation and company in the country. Indeed what gets you up is a tent for maneuvering politics as a game of achieving power. Adoring the people above young and looking down the people below you. Pleasing your superiors, picking a powerful mentor and riding his coattails until it’s time to stab him in the back. Jumping through hoops and getting along by going along. Being whatever, otherwise people want you to be, so that it finally comes to seem that, like the manager of the central station, you have nothing inside you at all. Not taking stupid risks like trying to change how things are done or question why they are done. Just keeping the routine going with the fact that, you have to confirm yourself as a different kind of leader.

It is true leadership is a national problem as it has brought serious crisis and violence leading to war in our country. But in this war there will be no one who will win it. Although, this crisis of leadership has overwhelmed the new born nation as it is all about power struggle to gain wealth and fame within a short period of time which made people complacent, as are leaders who only know to keep the traditional routine of work going and who can answer questions, but do not know how to ask them. Who can fulfill goals, but don’t know how to set them. Who think about how to get things done, but not whether they are worth doing in the first place. What is obvious is that we do not have leaders who are thinkers for others. There are people there who can formulate new directions for the country, a new way of doing things, a new way of looking things objectively. People, in other words, with vision. Think creatively or cultivating independence of mind. The word regiment is the root of the word regimentation. Indeed, there are people who do not need change as they ponder on big issues, without questioning authority, remaining there to be told what to do and how to think. But you know that is true.

In addition, the model of leaders is that to be possessed of a democratic spirit marked by independent judgment, the freedom to measure action and to express disagreement and the crucial responsibility never to tolerate tyranny and dictatorship. So it is necessary to think independently, creatively, and flexibly. To deploy, the whole range of skills in a fluid and complex situation. There people who know how to do more than follow orders and execute routines. Clearly, there are those who do rise through bureaucracy for the right reasons of being thinkers as intellectuals. However, what make a thinker is not a PhD accomplishment, I can assure you from personal experience that there are a lot of highly educated people who do not know how to think at all. No, what makes a person a thinker---and a leader---is precisely that one is able to think things through for himself. And one can, and does have confidence and courage, to argue his ideas even when they are not popular. In this case, even when they don’t please his superiors for that matter. Courage in this does contain physical courage, moral courage, which we all possess in abundance, and then there is another kind of courage, moral courage, the courage to stand up for what one believe in. It is not always easy for any one where one is now is never straight. He was ahead of the leadership which bureaucracies do not like that sort of thing. He does say implicitly bull loudly that the leadership was wrong in the way, his running the nation. It is important for leaders to think flexibly, creatively, and independently. The idea that true leadership does means being able to think yourself and act on your convictions is of great value morally. But how do you learn to do that? How do you learn to think? In contrary, let us start with how one does not learn to think. People do not have mental faculties that enable them to multitask effectively as their minds are more disorganized, when one keeps on switching between different tasks and roles of implementing the duty in hand. Multitasking is not just thinking, it impairs your ability to think. Thinking means concentrating on one thing long enough to develop an idea about the subject in point. Not learning other people’s ideas, or memorizing a body of information, however much those may sometimes be useful. Developing your own ideas would be fruitful in the end. In short, thinking for one’s self is by concentrating, sticking to the question, being patient, letting all the parts of one’s mind come into play, that one arrive at an original idea. By giving one’s brain a chance to make associations, draw connections, taking one by surprise. And often even that idea does not turn out to be very good. One need time to think about it, too, to make mistakes and recognize them, to make false starts and correct them,

to out last one impulses, to defeat one desire to declare the job done and move on to the next thing.

In this regard, the great German novelist Thomas Mann said that a writer is someone for whom writing is more difficult than it is for other people.
The best writers write much more slowly than everyone else, and the better they are, the slower they write. So it is with other form of thought. Here we should do our best thinking by slowing down and concentrate through focusing on the right subject. However, solitude does means gathering, gathering yourself together into single point than letting yourself be dispersed everywhere into a cloud of electronic and social input. Am I doing, the right thing with my life? Do I believe in the things I was taught as a child? What do the words I live by ---- words like duty, honor, and country---really mean? Am I happy? When one fulfill commitment to the nation, what than happen? In this point, one have to listen to oneself, to that quiet voice inside that tells one that what one really care about, what one really believe in----indeed, how those things might be evolving, under the pressure of one experiences. But the dilemmas can be found in solitude, which is the chance to find one self, but finding yourself has acquired a bad reputation. Here the need to find one self is just as much as anyone does solitary work by concentration. Indeed your own reality---for yourself, not for others. Thinking for yourself means finding yourself, finding your reality. We are bombarding our self with a stream of other people’s thoughts. One is maintaining oneself in the conventional wisdom. In other people’s reality: for others, not for yourself. One is creating a cacophony in which it is impossible, to hear your own voice, whether it’s yourself you are thinking about anything else. Emerson said that ‘’he who should inspire and lead his race must be defended from travelling with the souls of other men, from living, breathing, reading, and writing in the daily, time-worn yoke of their opinions. Leadership means finding a new direction, not simply putting yourself at the front of the herd that’s leading towards the cliff. Even books do say things that have the permanent power to disrupt our habits of thought. They were revolutionary in their own time, and they are still revolutionary until today. It friendship is also form of solitude which is counter intuitive as friendship is the opposite of solitude; it means being with other people. This friendship is term as deep friendship of intimate conversation which is a long uninterrupted talk with one other person. Introspection means talking to yourself, and one of the best ways of talking to yourself is by talking to another person whom you can trust and one other person to whom you unfold your soul. One other person you feel safe enough with to allow you to acknowledge things--- to acknowledge things to yourself---which you otherwise cannot. Doubts you are not supposed to have, questions you are not supposed to ask. Feelings or opinions that would get you laughed at by the groups or reprimanded by authorities. This is what we call thinking out loud, discovering what you believe in the course of articulating it. But this takes just as much time and just has much patience as solitude in the strict sense. This is not friendship, it is just distraction. Thus, solitude is the very essence of leadership. So in this case the position of the leader is ultimately an intensely solitary, even intensely lonely. However many people one may consult, one can make the hard decisions. And at such movements, all you really have is yourself.

In this view, this might sound a little bit a dream and hypothetical but the evolution of the society and system of governance does always from time to time need intelligent political thinkers to explore and discover the right system of government which can unite people as brothers and sisters in Christ. Therefore, to survive these numerous challenges that are being face in this modern world of civilization do remains a dilemma and uncertainty and unjust as are manmade natural disasters that keep on striking frequently and mercilessly across the globe without control which do end in catastrophe to human life.

So what would we say is the right system of government for Sudanile Christian State? Should it be an empire state? Then can we divide up the empire into units called kingdoms, with each tribe having a King? But there are some tribes that do not conform to this method of governance, because they are anarchical by nature. It therefore seems that our country will perpetually stay in state of anarchy, corruption and impunity. But let us look at what empire is closely: An empire refers to a single entity which does have a supreme rule and power over a vast area of territory which consists of peoples of different ethnicity, and nationality. This list is based on the influence, longevity and power of the various empires, and, as you will see, it contains at least one or two entities that may strike some as controversial. This type of empire does unify the whole of Sudanile which do consist of lot of different cultures, kingdoms, empires and tribes. In fact, empire is forged by the writer Manyang von Chief Parek the great and spanned that made up United Kingdom as a pure Christian state in Africa. Therefore this Christian state has to be ruled by emperors under a United Kingdom so that the centre of power and unity of the people is promoted in the kingdoms. This is so advantageous in that the Kings and the Queens of various communities will be made accountable by their communities’ and lineages. This would make the United Kingdom strong and powerful in economic, cultural and military forces across Africa, despite the past setbacks and territorial losses during successive Islamic Arab regimes during the wars.

In spite Sudanile is still embroiled in a civil war against itself but, it is now important to have different kingdoms to enhance effective control and supremacy. In the end, Sudanile Christian state will win, and gobbled up, the whole Sudanile under its control. In this view, Manyang Von Chief Parek dynasty would be considered a golden age in Sudanile history in terms of scientific achievement, technological and political stability. After that accomplishment Sudanile Empire will then embarked on political reform through cultural exchanges and way of life. In addition, English language has to be adopted widely as spoken language in the Sudanile as much linguistics agrees that English is the de-facto standard language of the world. Here, one is highly convince them that Sudanile Empire would definitely as one of the most influential Empires ever to have existed in human history in our African continent.

In conclusion a democratically constitutional monarchy would be the ideal solution to this ongoing chronic crisis which has led to war in our society and system of governance in the Sudanile Christian state. Constitutional monarchy is of course a form of government in which a King or Queen is a head of the state. Whereas we know that the ability to make and pass legislation resides with an elected parliament, not with the monarch. It is the form of government in which a King or Queen acts as Head of state. Therefore, the King or Queen becomes right power centre and a channel to come even closer to God. Thus, the basic role is therefore to inspire their subjects to become closer to Al-mighty. A person has to fear God and the King or Queen. The juxtaposition of God and the King are both one concept and worthy of equal fear. Royalty on earth reflects royalty in Heaven who give His wisdom to creatures, so the King on earth is reflection of God. On this basis one does envisage a situation which is likely to unfold in future where separate Kingdoms may come up, each of which may be autonomous and which by consultation, agreement and referendum might lead to United Kingdom of Sudanile Christian State. This is not farfetched. There is some evidence showing this may be the case at a later date.
